Uniquely at Forbes Place, all apartments have either a balcony or a terrace, which is great for when you’re entertaining, or even better, taking time out for yourself and relaxing with a coffee and a book on a Sunday morning. As outdoor furniture is entirely up to you, we’ve come up with some simple ideas to make the best of your balcony space!
Adding some greenery
As the temperatures are getting (slightly) warmer, and the days longer, it’s a great time to brighten up your balcony; and plants offer a quick and easy way to add some instant colour and interest. So why not head down to your local garden centre for some help and advice on choosing some suitable specimens?
Whether it be plants in pots or shrubs for tubs, there’s a wealth of options available. If you’re short on time but looking for an instant splash of colour then some ready-made planters packed with spring blooms such as daffodils or bluebells are a great low maintenance buy. Or if you feel more adventurous, trying some mix and match summer florals with small evergreen plants and shrubs, for year-round colour.
Somewhere to sit
If you’re not the green-fingered type, then outdoor furniture offers a colourful and practical alternative to planters. If you’re looking for minimal effort (aren’t we all?) then plastic garden furniture is the way to go. It’s cheerful, hard-wearing, easy to clean and there are some fantastic contemporary styles available to suit all tastes and budgets.
A bistro set of a small table and a couple of chairs can be easily folded and stored. Typically available in metal, wood and even recycled plastic they’re a great space-saving option that will last for years if looked after.
Synthetic wicker or rattan furniture offers a comfortable way to while away a sunny afternoon. Designed to withstand the elements, they usually include removable shower-proof cushions, however as these tend to take up more space they’re best suited for a bigger terrace or outdoor space.
Smaller touches
The addition of cushions will of course make your seating more comfortable, and if you look out for the shower-proof versions, you won’t need to worry too much about the Aberdeen weather.
If you’re keen on making the most of the lighter evenings, a throw is a great accessory for your sofa, and can double-up and keep you warm if you’re dining al fresco. Once the sun has gone down, a set of battery or solar-powered outdoor lights are a safe and easy way to add extra ambience to your outdoor space.
